NEWARK, DE – Delaware State Police have apprehended 24-year-old Jacob Singleton of Middletown following a high-speed chase and subsequent incidents in Newark on Sunday.
The pursuit began on June 16, 2024, around 2:23 p.m. when a state trooper, assisting a disabled motorist on Salem Church Road near East Chestnut Hill Road, noticed a black Mazda violating a red light. The trooper’s attempt to stop the vehicle led to a chase through Newark streets. Due to the reckless driving by the Mazda, the trooper discontinued the pursuit to ensure public safety.
The vehicle was later spotted by another patrol on Montrose Drive, parked in a driveway close to an occupied home. Singleton was found by troopers after a local resident reported him unlawfully entering their home and hiding in the bathroom.
During his arrest, Singleton resisted, injuring a trooper who later received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a nearby hospital. Singleton was charged at Troop 6 and is being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $13,300 cash bond.
The charges against Singleton include:
- Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (second degree causing injury, felony)
- Three counts of Reckless Endangering (first degree, felony)
- Burglary (felony)
- Resisting Arrest with Force Causing Injury to a Peace Officer (felony)
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal (felony)
- Multiple Traffic Violations
