Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Wilmington Under Investigation

Wilmington, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred last night in Wilmington, resulting in the death of one man.

On June 17, at approximately 9:04 PM, a silver 2010 Toyota Yaris was traveling eastbound in the left lane of East Newport Pike, passing the intersection with Curtis Avenue. At the same time, a 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle, also in the left lane of East Newport Pike, approached the rear of the Toyota at an apparent high rate of speed. The preliminary investigation revealed that the front of the Kawasaki struck the rear of the Toyota, causing the motorcyclist and his passenger to be ejected.

The passenger of the Kawasaki, a 32-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of family and relatives. The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, a 19-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, was also taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours for investigation and clearing of the scene.
