Bergen County Opens Cooling Centers Amid Heat Wave

HACKENSACK, NJ – In response to soaring temperatures, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco has announced the opening of several emergency cooling centers across the county. This initiative aims to provide residents with relief from the heat, which is expected to exceed 90 degrees during the current heat wave.

Four regional cooling centers will be operational from Tuesday, June 18th, through Friday, June 21st, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The locations include:

  • County Administration Building, One Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack, on the 1st Floor. Residents can call (201) 336-7300 for more information.
  • Garfield Senior Activity Center, located at 480 Midland Avenue, Garfield, with contact number (973) 478-0502.
  • Northwest Bergen Senior Activity Center, at 46-50 Center Street, Midland Park. For inquiries, call (201) 445-5690.
  • Southwest Bergen Senior Activity Center, 147 Hackensack Street, East Rutherford. The center can be reached at (201) 935-8920.

Additionally, various local municipalities are offering public spaces such as libraries, shopping centers, recreation, and senior centers as additional cooling sites. Residents are encouraged to visit these municipal locations to minimize travel and reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
