MARYLAND — “Larry,” a devoted participant of the Maryland Lottery for over fifty years, recently celebrated a significant win, claiming a $50,000 third-tier prize in the Powerball drawing.

The lucky sequence of events kicked off with a routine trip to Piper’s Wine & Spirit Barn in Manchester, a favorite spot for Larry and his wife, who are regular players of lottery games including Powerball, Multi-Match, Mega Millions, and occasionally scratch-offs. A few weeks ago, during one such visit, Larry purchased a $6 quick-pick Powerball ticket for the drawings held from May 13-18.

The ticket sat forgotten on his dresser until recently, when Larry discovered it and, along with his wife, returned to the store to check their luck. Using the store’s ticket checker, they scanned their tickets. While most showed no win, the mood changed dramatically when Larry scanned his Powerball ticket and, after some initial confusion with the scanner’s message, discovered the $50,000 win with his wife exclaiming in joy.

As the only Marylander to win a third-tier prize in the May 13 drawing, Larry expressed his plans to use the winnings to invest in his health and save for the future. He also intends to treat his wife to a special gift or dinner to celebrate their good fortune together.

Despite the big win, Larry’s enthusiasm for the lottery remains undiminished. He remarked, “We’ve been playing for as long as I can remember. And now that I’ve won big, who knows? Lightning might strike twice.”
