Newark Public Safety Director Requests Help to Identify Suspect in Aggravated Assault

NEWARK, NJ — Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is appealing for public assistance to identify a male suspect linked to an aggravated assault that occurred last Friday.

The incident unfolded around 8:33 p.m. at the intersection of Jackson Street and Market Street, near Riverview Park. A cleaning service driver, who honked at a group obstructing his path, was assaulted by an unknown African American male from the group. The suspect hurled a glass bottle through the vehicle’s driver-side window, hitting the driver in the head and causing bleeding, before fleeing on foot.

The victim received on-site medical evaluation from EMS. The suspect, described as being in his late twenties to early thirties, was last seen wearing a green shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes, and carrying a black Adidas duffle bag. Detectives are urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward to aid in the swift identification of the suspect.
