BOSTON, MA – A suspect was arrested and a firearm recovered by officers of the Boston Police Department after gunshots were reported in Boston Common around 10:05 PM on Monday, June 10. Dana Loder, 30, from Lynnfield, was apprehended following a police chase triggered by the incident.
The situation unfolded as officers from District A-1 (Downtown) were patrolling near the intersections of Tremont St. and Winter St. They heard gunshots emanating from within the Boston Common and observed several individuals fleeing the area. Upon entering the Common, officers spotted a suspicious individual running and clutching his waistband, who then fled on foot, leading to a pursuit.
During the chase, the suspect discarded a firearm, which was later recovered by the police. The apprehension occurred near 131 Tremont St. Shortly after the arrest, emergency services discovered a victim with life-threatening gunshot wounds inside the Common. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition.
Dana Loder is slated to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on several charges, including Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License (2nd Offense) and Possession of a Class B Drug (Crack Cocaine). The Boston Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation of the shooting.
