JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A fatal accident involving a bicyclist occurred on Farmingdale Road at noon today, prompting an extensive investigation by local authorities. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and the Jackson Township Police Department are jointly investigating the incident.
The collision involved a 2017 Audi A4 that was traveling westbound on Farmingdale Road. According to the investigation, the Audi swerved into the opposite lane to avoid a head-on collision with an SUV, striking a bicyclist in the process.
After hitting the bicyclist, the Audi driver overcorrected, leading the vehicle to collide with a tree.
The SUV, described as red or maroon and possibly a Hyundai, did not stop and continued eastbound on Farmingdale Road.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Audi sustained minor injuries and was transported to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold for treatment. Authorities are seeking a Caucasian female, believed to be driving the SUV with a young male child, who may have contributed to the accident.
