SILVER SPRING, MD — Maryland State Police are currently investigating a deadly three-vehicle crash that occurred early this morning on the inner loop of Interstate 495 at Georgia Avenue. The incident, involving multiple vehicles, led to the death of a local man and injuries to several others.
Boris Jose Bonilla, 30, from Rockville, Maryland, was declared deceased at the scene by Montgomery County emergency medical services. The crash was reported at about 3:00 AM and prompted responses from troopers at the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the crash happened as a 2005 Honda Accord collided with a 2020 Jeep Wrangler and a 2007 Honda Civic while merging onto I-495 from southbound Georgia Avenue. Bonilla, a passenger in the Accord, along with the drivers of all involved vehicles and two passengers from the Civic, were transported to a hospital due to their injuries.
The section of the interstate where the incident occurred was closed for several hours as authorities managed the scene.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, along with Montgomery County Police, assisted in the road closures. The Maryland State Police Crash Team has taken the lead on this ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
