TRENTON, NJ – Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco expressed disappointment over the failure of the StayNJ Task Force to address critical funding issues for the property tax relief program. Bucco highlighted the lack of a clear plan to fund the $1.2 billion annual StayNJ initiative, which aims to alleviate property taxes for New Jersey residents.
Bucco criticized the Trenton Democrats for not presenting a viable financial strategy for StayNJ. He suggested that without significant cuts to wasteful spending, the Democrats would struggle to finance the program without either harming vulnerable groups through service cuts or imposing new taxes.
“It’s disappointing the Task Force failed to address one of its core missions, which is how to fund StayNJ. Now more than ever, it’s clear that Trenton Democrats have no plan on how to fund the property tax relief program they promised our residents.” said Bucco.
The Republican leader warned that the ongoing funding dilemma could potentially escalate into a prolonged budget conflict in June. He voiced concerns that without proper funding strategies, the property tax relief that residents were promised remains an unrealized promise.
Bucco remains available for further comments and can be contacted through Kyle Fischer, the Senate Republican Office’s director of communications, at kfischer@njleg.org.
This situation places the StayNJ program in a precarious position as it continues to be more of a concept than a reality, with significant implications for the state’s budget discussions in the coming months.
