High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest of 16-Year-Old Runaway Teen in Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – A high-speed chase initiated by First Sergeant A.I. Assur led to the arrest of a 16-year-old female runaway on the night of May 31st.

The incident began near Sherwood Forest Farm Lane on Kings Highway when First Sergeant Assur clocked a Toyota RAV4 traveling at 91 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.

Despite activating his emergency equipment, the teen driver escalated the situation by turning off her headlights and speeding into Fredericksburg, nearly losing control while entering the city. Her reckless driving included using the shoulder to overtake vehicles, running a red light, and nearly colliding with another motorist.

The pursuit came to a halt after the suspect struck another vehicle at the intersection of Woodlyn Drive, with her car becoming disabled 75 yards later. Although the vehicle was inoperable, the driver momentarily attempted to flee again before ultimately surrendering.

First Sergeant Assur identified the teen and learned that Chesterfield Police were in the process of listing her as a runaway. She now faces criminal complaints for felony eluding and reckless driving. The Virginia State Police are handling the hit-and-run aspect of the incident and will issue additional charges.

The juvenile was detained and is currently held at the Juvenile Detention Center, awaiting further proceedings.
