Bicyclist Strikes Student Exiting School Bus in Dover Township

DOVER TOWNSHIP, PA – A 10-year-old student suffered minor injuries after being struck by a bicyclist in Dover Township. The incident occurred on May 28 at around 4:00 PM in the 2600 block of W. Canal Rd.

The Northern York County Regional Police Department reported that the student was exiting a school bus, which had stopped with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, when the accident happened. The bus was headed eastbound on W. Canal Rd. when the bicyclist, traveling in the same direction, failed to halt for the bus’s red lights and struck the student as he stepped off the bus.

The impact knocked the boy to the ground, causing various scrapes and cuts, though he did not require medical attention. A nearby woman, who was waiting for her child to disembark from the bus, rushed to assist the injured student.

The bicyclist remained at the scene to check on the child, who was visibly upset and walked away from the scene. The student attends North Salem Elementary. As of the latest reports, the bicyclist has not yet contacted the police, school district, or bus transportation company to report the incident.
