FINKSBURG, MD — A devastating accident occurred last night in Carroll County, resulting in the death of a local man. Maryland State Police are currently investigating the incident, which involved a 2022 Ford Explorer.
The driver, identified as 41-year-old Geoffrey Brittingham of Hampstead, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. The crash took place shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Emory Road at Cedarhurst Road. Brittingham’s 7-year-old son, who was in the rear of the vehicle, was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for treatment.
Preliminary findings suggest that Brittingham did not stop for a closed construction zone at the North Branch Patapsco River bridge replacement project, leading to a collision with the rear of a 2014 Volvo Excavator and a nearby Mack Dump Truck. The construction zone was inactive at the time of the crash.
Authorities noted that there were no other injuries reported at the scene. They also reminded motorists that the MD 91 bridge will remain closed for an extended period, advising the use of detour routes via MD 30 and MD 140.
