TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — The Travis County District Attorney’s Office has formally announced the indictment of Mitchell Wasek, 28, on charges related to the secret recording of individuals without their consent. A grand jury in the 147th Judicial District Court issued six indictments encompassing 21 counts of invasive visual recording, a state jail felony under Texas Penal Code 21.15.
The indictments, which were returned on Friday, May 17, 2024, involve allegations against Wasek over a two-year period involving thirteen separate victims. The victims were reportedly recorded at Wasek’s residences in both Texas cities—Dallas and Austin—as well as in Telluride, Colorado. The recordings included footage of the victims in various states of undress, using the bathroom, and during sexual encounters, all purportedly without their knowledge or consent.
Mitchell Wasek, identified as the son of one of the co-founders of the well-known Buc-ee’s gas and travel center chain, will have his case prosecuted in the 167th Judicial Court for Travis County.
Travis County District Attorney José Garza emphasized the gravity with which his office approaches the presentation of facts and evidence to the grand jury, stating, “In this case, a group of independent Travis County community members heard the evidence and law and decided that Mr. Wasek’s conduct was unlawful.”
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the matter. Further details will be disclosed as the legal process progresses.
