MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The Maplewood Police Department has reported several incidents in the past week, including multiple shoplifting arrests and vehicle rummages.

  • May 17, 2024: Police received reports of motor vehicle rummages on Lenox Terrace and Oakview Avenue. No further details on the items rummaged or suspects involved were provided.
  • May 18, 2024: Officer Mesler responded to a shoplifting incident on Springfield Avenue. Shakira Thompson, 48, of Newark, NJ, was arrested after being identified by the business manager as the shoplifter. Thompson reportedly stole over $23.00 worth of merchandise and had an outstanding warrant for Defiant Trespassing. She was transported to the County Jail.
  • May 18, 2024: In a separate incident on the same day and location, Sergeant Zuhowski and Officer Gil arrested 32-year-old Devin Shea of Staten Island, NY, for shoplifting over $263.00 worth of merchandise.
  • May 21, 2024: Officers Williams and Cain responded to another shoplifting report on Springfield Avenue. Adonis Maple, 29, from Irvington, NJ, was apprehended for stealing two beverages from a local business.
  • May 21, 2024: Later that day, Officer Alexander also responded to a shoplifting call on Springfield Avenue. Jaysen Williams, 53, of Newark, NJ, was arrested for shoplifting over $213.00 worth of merchandise and was transported to the County Jail.
