KEARNY, NJ — The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit, together with the Kearny Police Department, is actively investigating a hit-and-run incident that left a 76-year-old man critically injured. The collision occurred on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the intersection of Kearny Avenue and Columbia Avenue.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Kearny Police Department received a call shortly after 7 a.m. about a pedestrian being struck. Upon arrival, officers found the elderly victim suffering from serious injuries. The vehicle involved in the incident did not remain at the scene, leaving the victim in need of urgent medical attention.
Emergency Medical Services promptly transported the injured man to University Hospital in Newark, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the driver involved to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation. The efforts to locate the responsible party are ongoing as the community hopes for the recovery of the victim.
