An ordinary day turned extraordinary for a Metro bus mechanic from Brooklyn Park, Anne Arundel County, who claimed a $1 million top prize from a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket.

The fortunate mechanic shared that his initial plan was simply to buy gas for his car at Red Sea Petroleum on 101 West Patapsco Avenue in Baltimore. However, a detour for a bite to eat at a nearby burger joint set the stage for his lucky moment. With an extra $20 in hand after his meal, he chose to purchase a Gold Rush 777 instant ticket, drawn by its eye-catching gold color.

Upon scratching the ticket, he uncovered a “7” symbol, which indicated the $1 million prize. Despite the life-changing win, the mechanic checked the ticket on the store’s scanner, which advised him to see the cashier, confirming his jackpot. Throughout the excitement, he managed to remain composed.

Currently, the new millionaire has no immediate plans for his windfall, opting to save it for the time being. He intends to continue his 17-year career as a mechanic. As a bonus for selling the winning ticket, Red Sea Petroleum will receive a $1,000 commission from the Maryland Lottery.
