12-Year-Old Boy Facing Hate Crime Charge After Attacking Two Jewish Boys Playing in NYC

BROOKLYN, NY—The New York City Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the hate crime assault that occurred on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at around 9:00 PM on a public sidewalk in front of 173 Franklin Avenue, within the 79th Precinct. A 12-year-old boy has been taken into custody under charges of third-degree assault as a hate crime and second-degree aggravated harassment as a hate crime.

The incident involved two victims, a 13-year-old male and an 11-year-old male, who were reportedly playing when the suspect initially passed them on a bicycle, made a derogatory remark, returned, and then physically assaulted them. The suspect allegedly pushed the 13-year-old to the ground and kicked and punched the 11-year-old in the back before fleeing the scene.

Both victims were treated by EMS at the scene and released.
