PRESTON, MD – A fire damaged a two-story, single-family residence at 232 Main Street on Monday evening. The Preston Volunteer Fire Company responded to the blaze, which was reported at 7:24 PM while firefighters were participating in a local parade.
The home, owned by Derin and Katie Brewer, sustained an estimated $75,000 in damages, with $50,000 to the structure and $25,000 to contents.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
The fire, which originated in the living room, was controlled within 20 minutes.
It was determined to be accidental, caused by a malfunction of an unspecified electronic device. Smoke alarms in the home were activated, aiding in the response, although no fire sprinklers were present.
The incident underscores the importance of smoke alarms and the community’s quick response capabilities.
