SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY—Three boaters experienced a frightening start to their holiday weekend when their vessel caught fire in the Great South Bay on Saturday morning. Thanks to the swift response of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Marine Bureau, all individuals were rescued without injury.
The incident occurred approximately one mile south of Timber Point, involving a 2014 Rodma cruiser. Upon receiving the emergency call, Marine Bureau officers promptly arrived at the scene to find that the three occupants had already evacuated to a nearby vessel.

Using Marine Kilo, officers deployed fire suppression hoses to manage the blaze. The three men were then safely transferred to an SCPD vessel. Local fire departments also responded to the scene, assisting in the efforts to secure the area.
The Suffolk County Police Department’s Marine Bureau will continue patrolling the waterways throughout the summer, ensuring the safety of boaters in the region.
