NEWPORT NEWS, VA—In a recent community effort, two officers from the Newport News Police Department (NNPD) joined forces with students from Warwick High School to clean up the Monitor Merrimac Overlook. On May 22, the group successfully collected 223.63 pounds of trash, which included one random tire found during the clean-up.

This latest initiative is part of a larger effort by the community to maintain cleanliness and environmental stewardship in the area. So far this year, a total of 1,582.73 pounds of trash have been collected through various community clean-up events.

The NNPD has announced that the next community clean-up event is scheduled for June 3, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The department encourages local residents to participate in these efforts to help keep their community clean and safe.
