MIDDLETOWN, DE — The Middletown Police Department responded to a shooting incident in the 400 block of N. Catherine Street on May 21, at approximately 7:00 p.m. The call was initially related to shots being fired with multiple individuals fleeing the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found several shell casings and vehicles that had been struck by gunfire. During their investigation, police were notified that Lawrence Ray, 29, from Elkton, Maryland, had been admitted to Middletown Emergency Hospital with gunshot wounds, which were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Investigations revealed that Ray was involved in a confrontation prior to the shooting. He allegedly discharged a firearm, hitting vehicles and residences that were occupied at the time. Ray has been charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and two counts of reckless endangering.
Following his arraignment at the Justice of Peace Court, Ray was held on a $70,000.00 cash bond. The incident underscores ongoing concerns regarding gun violence and public safety in the area.
