Extensive Road Closures Announced for National Memorial Day Parade in D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC – Motorists should prepare for major street closures and parking restrictions in the District of Columbia on Monday, May 27, due to the National Memorial Day Parade. The event will affect several roads in the downtown area, impacting traffic and parking from early morning to late afternoon. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly due to the extensive traffic measures that will be in place.

Emergency No Parking will be enforced from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on multiple major streets including:

  • 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 14th, and 15th Streets, ranging between Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Independence Avenue, SW, and Constitution Avenue, NW.
  • Constitution Avenue from Pennsylvania Avenue to 23rd Street, NW.
  • North side of Independence Avenue from 4th Street to 12th Street, SW.
  • Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive from 3rd Street to 14th Street.

Additional no parking zones will be effective from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on:

  • Virginia Avenue from Constitution Avenue to 23rd Street, NW.
  • 18th, 19th, and 20th Streets from E Street to Constitution Avenue, NW.

Road closures to all vehicle traffic will also occur from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the aforementioned streets and include closures of the SE/SW Freeway access to the 12th Street Tunnel from I-395 exit ramps and the 12th Street Tunnel exit from Independence Avenue, SW.

Additional road closures from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. include:

  • Constitution Avenue from 15th Street to 23rd Street, NW.
  • Inbound I-395 traffic (14th Street Bridge) directed eastbound on I-395 SW Freeway.
  • 17th, 18th, and 19th Streets from New York Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW.
  • Virginia Avenue from 24th Street to Constitution Avenue, NW.
