Two Jersey City Men Charged in Connection with Fatal Shooting

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Two local men have been charged in relation to a deadly shooting incident that took place on Tuesday, April 30. Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the charges as part of an ongoing investigation into the event that occurred in Jersey City.

Nyzir Wilson and Stephon Murphy, both aged 23, face multiple charges including Robbery, Burglary, both Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Burglary, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Wilson also faces a charge of Attempted Murder. Both suspects are currently detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

The charges stem from an incident shortly after 12:40 a.m. when Jersey City Police responded to reports of gunfire on Audubon Avenue and College Street. At the scene, officers discovered David Jones, 24, fatally shot. Jones was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:35 a.m.

Wilson, found nearby with a gunshot wound, was treated at the same medical center. A Superior Court Judge has confirmed Murphy’s detention, and Wilson is scheduled for a detention motion hearing on Wednesday, May 29.
