HOWARD COUNTY, MD – Howard County police have successfully recovered approximately 15,000 stolen construction tools, marking one of the largest theft recoveries in the region in recent years. The stolen items are valued between $3 million and $5 million.
The thefts, which started as early as January, involved tools taken from retail stores, businesses, vehicles, residential properties, and construction sites across Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The tools were primarily stored in Howard County storage units and were believed to be sold through various channels.
The breakthrough in the investigation came from a tracking device within one of the stolen tools, leading officers to a storage unit in Elkridge. Following this lead, police conducted search warrants at 12 locations, 11 of which were in Howard County, where they recovered the stolen items.
As of today, no charges have been filed, and the investigation continues. Police have already identified over 80 victims, with potentially hundreds or thousands more affected. Victims are encouraged to fill out a recovery form to reclaim their stolen property.
