LAUREL, MD — A grand jury has indicted Corporal Dexter Shin, a suspended patrol officer from Prince George’s County, on one count of misconduct in office today. The indictment relates to an incident on March 3, when Shin allegedly struck a pedestrian with his cruiser in Laurel and failed to report the collision or ensure the pedestrian received proper medical care.

Following the incident, the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division launched an investigation. The findings were later presented to the State’s Attorney’s Office, culminating in today’s criminal charges. Shin was immediately suspended after the department became aware of the incident.

Chief Malik Aziz expressed his concern, stating that the allegations were “deeply disturbing” and contrary to the department’s ethical standards.

He emphasized that the behavior alleged does not represent the integrity of the department’s personnel. Aziz also mentioned that if the allegations are proven, he will advocate for full accountability in the administrative process.

Corporal Shin, who joined the force in 2017 and is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, will remain on suspension pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
