NEWARK, NJ—Evgeniy Doroshenko, a 31-year-old Russian citizen from Astrakhan, Russia, also known as “Eugene Doroshenko,” “FlankerWWH,” and “Flanker,” has been indicted on charges of wire fraud and computer fraud. U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger of the District of New Jersey announced the charges, which stem from Doroshenko’s role as an “access broker” in cybercrime circles.
From February 2019 to May 2024, Doroshenko illegally accessed various computer systems and sold these accesses on a Russian language cybercrime forum on the dark web. In January 2024, he breached a company’s network in Bergen County, New Jersey, and subsequently offered to sell this access to other cybercriminals.
Cybercrime forums, such as the one Doroshenko used, are notorious for facilitating a range of illegal activities including hacking and trafficking in stolen data. The wire fraud charge against him carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense. The computer fraud charge could result in up to five years in prison and similar financial penalties.
Special agents from Homeland Security Investigations Newark and the U.S. Secret Service Newark Field Office conducted the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney David E. Malagold of the Cybercrime Unit in Newark represents the government in this case.
