NEWARK, NJ — U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger has announced the arrest of nine individuals involved in a significant drug trafficking organization in Newark.
The group, including residents from Newark, Elizabeth, Parlin, Belleville, and Yardley, Pennsylvania, faces charges related to the distribution of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
Key defendants include Jaquan Beard, Joseph Feliciano, Carlos Lopez, George Lopez, Tyree Malone, David Quinones, Wilberto Cotto, Reinaldo Cruz, Steven Garcia, Adolphus Hunter, Jermaine Jones, Nelson Valentin, Joel Hernandez, Jonathan Arce, and Jose Correa. George Lopez is also charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, firearm offenses, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Reynaldo Cruz faces charges for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and firearm-related conspiracy.
Several members appeared in Newark federal court on May 16, where they were detained, while others are detained on state charges or remain at large. The group allegedly operated in Essex and Union counties, distributing significant amounts of controlled substances, with connections to the Latin Kings street gang.
The charges carry severe penalties, including mandatory minimums and potential life sentences.
