Police Investigate Deceptive Scam Targeting Victim in Wilkes-Barre

Wilkes-Barre, PA – The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department is actively investigating an incident of theft by deception involving the impersonation of a public servant. The victim, a 26-year-old male, fell victim to a scam where he was convinced to transfer twenty-five hundred dollars under false pretenses.

The victim visited the Police Headquarters on Carey Avenue on Saturday afternoon to report the fraudulent activity that occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. on the same day. According to the victim, he received a call from an individual claiming to be from the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Office, who falsely informed him of an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Subsequently, the scammer persuaded the victim to transfer a significant sum of money from his bank account to resolve the fictitious warrant. The victim complied with the request, only later realizing that he had fallen prey to a scam. The Wilkes-Barre PD is conducting an active investigation into this deceptive act.
