Utica, NY – On Tuesday night, Utica Police units responded to reports of gunshots near the 1100 block of Neilson St. Upon arrival, officers found Mohamed Mudey, a 23-year-old individual known to them, with a loaded rifle magazine and spent shell casings outside his residence.

Mudey admitted to possessing an AR-style rifle and was detained for further investigation after hiding the weapon in his home. Subsequently, a search warrant was obtained and executed, leading to the discovery of the AR rifle and four illegal handguns inside the residence.

The weapons were confiscated, and Mudey was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree for both the assault weapon and extended magazine.

While the investigation into the gunshots and handguns is ongoing, additional charges are anticipated, police reported.
