Inmate Pleads Guilty to Attack on Rockland County Jail Guard

Spring Valley, NY – Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced on Tuesday that 21-year-old Shaquille Gage from Spring Valley, New York, entered a guilty plea for Assault in the Second Degree for harming a Rockland County Corrections Officer at the county’s jail. The defendant admitted to the charge before the Honorable Kevin Russo on May 9, 2024.

The incident took place on April 7, 2024, when Gage failed to comply with verbal instructions from the officers at the Rockland County Jail. He turned aggressive towards them, striking one officer in the face, initiating two struggles where he continued to resist. As a result, a corrections officer sustained injuries and required treatment at a local hospital.

According to District Attorney Tom Walsh, the defendant’s actions were unacceptable and led to the injuries of a corrections officer, highlighting the essential role such officers play in the justice system, ensuring prisoner safety and rehabilitation. Gage is currently awaiting sentencing on July 10, 2024, facing a three-year prison term.
