Macomb County, MI – Nathaniel Taylor, a 22-year-old from Southfield, was sentenced today for the 2022 murder of 17-year-old Taya Land. Land, a young mother, was killed on Interstate 94 in St. Clair Shores.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 14, 2022, when Taylor and Land had an altercation. During the confrontation, Taylor forcibly removed Land from his vehicle and fatally shot her three times in the head using a 9mm firearm.
Taylor faced charges including one count of Second Degree Murder, which is a life felony, and one count of Felony Firearm, a two-year mandatory felony. He entered a no contest plea on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Chief Judge James Biernat, Jr. of the Macomb County Circuit Court handed down a sentence of 17-50 years for the murder, plus an additional two years for the firearm charge, to be served consecutively.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido commented on the sentencing, expressing hope that it would provide some closure to the victim’s family, emphasizing the importance of accountability for the “senseless loss of life.” The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office remains dedicated to representing the community and upholding Michigan state laws.
