NEWARK, DE – An armed robbery at a Valero gas station on 796 Old Baltimore Pike in Newark unfolded last night.
Delaware State Police reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 9:48 p.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, an unidentified black male suspect, armed with a firearm, demanded cash from a Valero employee working the counter. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money and placing his firearm on the counter, the employee seized the opportunity to grab the weapon and point it at the suspect.
The suspect initially fled the scene but returned moments later, demanding his firearm back. This prompted the employee to fire a single shot, causing the suspect to flee again, this time in a northeast direction.
The firearm was recovered by the troopers from the employee. It remains unclear if the suspect sustained any injuries as no related injuries have been reported at local hospitals.
The suspect was last seen wearing dark-colored clothing. No surveillance footage or images of the suspect are available at this time.
