BROOKLYN, NY – A tragic motor vehicle collision occurred last Thursday, involving two pedestrians and an NYPD marked vehicle.
The incident took place at the intersection of Eldert Street and Knickerbocker Avenue, within the jurisdiction of the 83 Precinct. At approximately 5:02 PM, officers discovered two female pedestrians, aged 71 and 44, unconscious and with severe trauma.
The 71-year-old, identified as Juanita Vidal of Brooklyn, was pronounced dead at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, while the 44-year-old remains in critical but stable condition at NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst.
The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad reports that an NYPD vehicle from the 83 Precinct attempted to stop a 2024 Mazda CX-5, which fled at high speed and ran through two stop signs at Knickerbocker Avenue.
In trying to dodge another vehicle, the Mazda hit the pedestrians and a parked 2011 Chevrolet Van, causing a chain reaction with another parked vehicle, a 2011 Honda Fit. The driver of the Mazda fled the scene on foot. No arrests have been made; the investigation continues.
