WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ – A 48-year-old Lakewood man has turned himself in to face 4th Degree Assault by Auto charges from a motor vehicle collision on November 15, 2023, on Allenwood Lakewood Road. Daniel A Abbott, 48, was processed for the charges following an incident that severely injured a 73-year-old Belmar man.
The charges resulted from an investigation involving the Wall Township Police Department, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (S.C.A.R.T. Team), and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit. Abott had been driving a Ford full-size van on Allenwood Lakewood Road, crossing over into the eastbound lane where he hit the Belmar man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
After the collision, the injured motorcyclist was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for several months due to severe injuries. The investigation revealed that Abbott’s hand-held cellular phone use during the crash was a contributing factor. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a fair trial.
