Mineola, NY — A Hempstead man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the October 2018 murder of a Roosevelt man in broad daylight.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that Savonn Dangerfield, 27, was sentenced after pleading guilty to murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. The plea was entered before Judge Meryl Berkowitz on March 7. The NCDA had recommended a sentence of 22 years to life.
Dangerfield shot and killed 23-year-old Jeffrey Lee on October 12, 2018, at approximately 12:07 p.m. on Dartmouth Street in Hempstead. Lee was walking with his girlfriend when Dangerfield approached him at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and shot him twice. Lee was pronounced dead at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island.
Multiple 9mm shell casings were recovered at the scene. Dangerfield fled to Ohio but was arrested on May 6, 2019, in Steubenville and later extradited to Nassau County.
