East Brunswick, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced that Route 18 will be closed and detoured between Tices Lane and Milltown Road in East Brunswick, Middlesex County for necessary drainage installation. In case of inclement weather, construction will be postponed to the following evening.
Route 18 northbound will close from Milltown Road to Tices Lanes beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, May 13, until 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, and again at the same time on Tuesday. Motorists will follow a detour onto Milltown Road, Old Bridge Turnpike, and Tices Lane before rejoining Route 18 northbound.
For Route 18 southbound, closure will be in effect from Tices Lane to Milltown Road starting at 11 p.m. on Monday, May 13, until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, and again at the same times on Tuesday.
A detour will direct southbound drivers onto Tices Lane, then Harts Lane, Milltown Road, and back onto Route 18 southbound. The $86.1 million project aims to repair about four and a half miles of Route 18, including pavement reconstruction and drainage system improvements. Variable messaging signs will guide motorists, and the project is set to conclude in fall 2026.
