WASHINGTON, DC—A fatal crash on 16th Street in Northwest D.C. is under investigation by the D.C. Metro Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit following an incident that occurred late Saturday night. The accident led to the tragic death of a passenger and involved a high-speed vehicle collision.
At around 10:27 PM on Saturday, a Subaru traveling at a high rate of speed attempted to overtake a BMW, resulting in a loss of control and subsequent crash into a tree. The collision resulted in severe injuries for the Subaru’s passenger, 24-year-old Jessica Luna Sanchez of Northwest, who was pronounced dead at the scene despite extensive lifesaving efforts.
The Subaru’s driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Occupants of the BMW were unharmed.
