Kushner Breaks Ground on Monmouth Square, Transforming Monmouth Mall into Open-Air Town Center

EATONTOWN, NJ – On Thursday, Kushner initiated the redevelopment of the historic Monmouth Mall into Monmouth Square, a contemporary $500+ million open-air town center. This project promises to enhance the community by providing 900,000 square feet of retail and dining, including a Whole Foods Market, extensive green spaces, and 1,000 residential units.

The initiative represents a strategic move to adapt to shifting retail trends and consumer preferences, redefining the space as a vibrant community hub. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local dignitaries, including Senator Vin Gopal and Eatontown Mayor Anthony Talerico, Jr., who celebrated the start of this transformative development.

Laurent Morali, CEO of Kushner, highlighted the project’s vision of revitalizing traditional mall spaces into accessible, community-focused environments. The construction involves demolishing 600,000 square feet of the existing structure, including former spaces of major retailers like Lord & Taylor and JCPenney, to make way for modern retail and luxury living spaces.

Monmouth Square will be located conveniently near the Garden State Parkway, designed by renowned architects and planners. The mixed-use destination is set to include upscale amenities such as a large clubhouse, wellness facilities, and diverse residential options under Kushner’s Livana brand.

Nicole Kushner Meyer, President of Kushner, and Michael Sommer, Chief Development Officer, both emphasized the project’s potential to significantly uplift the quality of life in Eatontown and contribute to the economic vitality of the region. The development is part of Kushner’s broader commitment to innovative community projects across Monmouth County and beyond.
