In Light Of Scooter Based Crimes, Queens DA Confiscates 412 Illegal Scooters

Queens, NY – District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the seizure of 95 scooters in Corona, Elmhurst, and Long Island City as part of a joint operation with local police precincts.

The initiative aims to combat the use of scooters in criminal activities, including drive-by shootings and robberies, with a total of 412 scooters removed since February.

District Attorney Katz emphasized the risks of unregistered scooters being used in violent crimes and the success of proactive enforcement efforts in collaboration with the NYPD to enhance community safety and security.

Detectives from the DA’s office, alongside officers from the NYPD’s 110th and 114th Precincts, conducted searches across various locations, resulting in the confiscation of 95 scooters, 71 of which were found to be unregistered and uninsured. Additional operations are planned to rid Queens of illegal motorized scooters.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of the NYPD and was supervised by key members of the District Attorney’s Detective Bureau, ensuring a concerted effort to address the public safety concerns posed by illegal scooter use.
