Fugitive Returned to U.S. to Face Manslaughter Charge in Deadly Crash

Upton, MA – Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr., has confirmed that Gabriel Dias De Holanda, 19, has been brought back to the United States and is set to appear in court on Monday for his involvement in a fatal crash that took place in Upton in 2022. Due to the incident, Dias De Holanda is faced with multiple charges including manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

That night in 2022, emergency personnel in Upton responded to a single-vehicle accident where the car had rolled over. Tragically, one of the passengers, Jacob O. Osanya, was fatally injured.

Dias De Holanda, along with the other occupants of the vehicle, including Osanya, were all taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment following the crash.

Shortly after the crash, Dias De Holanda absconded and later left for Brazil. Detectives discovered his travel plans to the United Kingdom, leading to his arrest in London in December 2023.

After an extradition request, Dias De Holanda agreed to return to the U.S., which led to his recent return on May 3, facilitated by the U.S. Marshals Service. The Upton Police Department and various law enforcement agencies were instrumental in the investigation leading to his extradition.
