Morristown, NJ—North Jersey is home to what could be described as one of the biggest pizza scandals of the century after Pizza reviewer Dave Portnoy of One Bite Pizza Reviews covered obvious pizza flops in a recent review to help his friend’s business.
There was no good undercarriage, no crisp to speak of, yet the pizza received a score of 8.3—unprecedented in the annals of One Bite Pizza history.
Typically, Portnoy would never give a floppy football pizza a score higher than 7.5, but on Wednesday, the king of pizza was like a Russian figure skating judge who gave only a 10.0 score when the rest of the judges were in the 7s.
When he removed a slice from the box at Coniglio’s Old Fashioned, Portnoy acted quickly to hide the obvious floppy, soupy mess by positioning his hand under the slice and bringing it to his mouth. On any other given day, Portnoy would go to the typical jersey fold on a slice of pizza.
Rarely do we see him cup his hand under the slice to prop it up from below like the supports holding the leaning tower of pizza from falling on its side.
The restaurant’s owner is an old friend and potential business partner of Portnoy’s, making the Watergate-style coverup even more of an affront to the well-respected pizza industry. It was a move right out of Big Pizza’s playbook, which shows commercials of pizzas propped up artificially for the camera.
While most did not notice the flop prop, the keen eye of our investigative journalism team caught the foul, which gave us no choice but to throw the yellow flag on the play.
