NEWARK, NJ — Zyeama Johnson, a 29-year-old resident of Jersey City, New Jersey, has been arrested and charged with six counts of burglary following multiple break-ins at two U.S. Post Offices in Hudson County, as announced today by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.
Johnson, who is a former employee of the post office, allegedly broke into one location on five separate occasions in January and once into another location in February. During these incidents, she is accused of stealing mail and loading it into her vehicle. Law enforcement apprehended her on February 7, 2023, as she exited the second post office.
Following her arrest, Johnson appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy Waldor in Newark federal court and was subsequently released on a $100,000 unsecured bond.
Each count of burglary against Johnson carries a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The case continues to be investigated.
