AUSTIN, MN — Hormel Foods Sales, LLC has initiated a voluntary recall of specific Planters products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall involves limited numbers of Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts and Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts, produced in April at one of its facilities.
The recalled items include 4 oz. packages of Honey Roasted Peanuts and 8.75 oz. cans of Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts. The risk of contamination was identified during routine testing, prompting the recall from only two retailers across five states: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Listeria can cause severe health issues, including fatal infections in vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea; it can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Consumers in possession of the affected products can return them for an exchange or dispose of them. For further assistance, Hormel Foods Customer Relations can be reached via email, chat, or phone. This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the US Food and Drug Administration.
