Bomb Threats Emailed to New York Synagogues and Jewish Centers
NEW YORK, NY — Multiple synagogues and Jewish institutions in New York City and surrounding areas were evacuated early Saturday following emailed bomb threats. Authorities disclosed that the menacing emails targeted 14 synagogues in Manhattan, five in Queens, two in Brooklyn, and additional locations upstate and on Long Island. The email explicitly stated, “I have set a bomb in your building, you have a few hours to disarm or else blood will shatter everywhere.”
Law enforcement identified the source of the threats as a group named “Terrorizers111.” This event occurs amid a noticeable increase in antisemitism, marked by anti-Israeli protests and encampments at universities like Columbia and City College.
In response to the growing security concerns, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer announced on Sunday that $400 million in federal funds would be allocated to bolster security at various houses of worship. This funding aims to support the installation of security cameras, guards, and barriers to protect these community spaces from further threats.
The incident happened on Sunday. Monday is officially recognized as Holocaust Remembrance Day.
