Suspect Arrested for Downtown Frederick Robbery

FREDERICK, MD — Frederick Police have apprehended Nola Ann Michelle Bens, a suspect in a violent robbery that occurred in downtown Frederick. The incident, reported on February 21, took place near South Carroll Street and Carroll Creek.

A female victim was assaulted and threatened with a firearm during a struggle to retain her purse. The attacker also stole the victim’s car keys before escaping. Witnesses were able to provide descriptions of the suspect and her vehicle, which aided police efforts.

Detective Stephen Radtke of the Major Crimes Unit led the investigation, utilizing video surveillance to track the suspect’s movements before the attack. With help from the DC Metro Police Department, Det. Radtke identified the suspect as Nola Ann Michelle Bens from Washington, DC.

On March 15, a warrant was issued for Bens, charging her with armed robbery, robbery, 2nd-degree assault, and theft. She was arrested in Alexandria, Virginia, by the US Marshal’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force on April 15 and extradited to Maryland on April 23. Bens is currently detained at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
