GREENFIELD – On Tuesday, April 21, authorities apprehended a 42-year-old man, Taaniel Herberger-Brown, who is implicated in a murder case involving a body found in a Western Massachusetts apartment. Herberger-Brown is currently in custody in Albany, New York, under a fugitive from justice warrant issued by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
The arrest unfolded at Albany International Airport following a joint effort between Greenfield police and Albany County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Greenfield law enforcement responded to neighbors’ concerns on Monday about a foul odor emanating from a Chapman Street apartment.
Upon investigation, officers discovered a deceased individual in one of the rooms. According to the prosecutor’s office, Herberger-Brown formerly resided in the same residence where the body was found. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed as officials await the results of the ongoing analysis by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
Herberger-Brown was taken into custody in his vehicle at an airport parking garage by Albany County Sheriff’s Office deputies shortly before 12:30 p.m. on April 21.
This arrest followed a notification from the Greenfield police to the Albany authorities. The timeline for Herberger-Brown’s extradition to Massachusetts for legal proceedings remains unspecified at this time.
