A man from Cape May County wanted in connection to a stabbing incident was apprehended in Mississippi almost three weeks after the crime occurred. Imani Goodman, 26, a resident of the Villas section of Lower Township, was taken into custody in Wayne County, Mississippi, on Tuesday, Apr. 23.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland confirmed the arrest in a news release on Wednesday, Apr. 24.
The arrest stemmed from an incident on Oregon Avenue in Lower Township on Wednesday, Apr. 3, where an individual sustained multiple stab wounds. The victim was promptly transported to Cape Regional Medical Center in Middle Township and was reported to be in critical but stable condition. Goodman was identified as the primary suspect in the case and faces charges of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Officials from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety located Goodman in Wayne County and took him into custody. Goodman is currently awaiting extradition back to New Jersey where he will be required to answer to the charges related to the stabbing incident. If found guilty,
Goodman could potentially face a sentence of up to 10 years in state prison.
