MANCHESTER, NJ – On Tuesday, officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to a car crash at the intersection of State Highway 70 and Green Acres Road. The incident involved a single car colliding with a utility pole, causing wires to fall across the roadway.
At the scene, authorities found a black 2020 Honda SUV with severe front-end damage facing west on the eastbound grass shoulder of State Highway 70. Upon investigation, it was determined that the Honda, which was traveling east, veered off the road due to the driver experiencing a medical episode.
The driver, identified as 72-year-old Michael R. Kehrle of Manchester, NJ, sustained chest and neck injuries in the crash. Mr. Kehrle was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, NJ.
The passenger in the vehicle, identified as 67-year-old Leslie A. Kehrle, also from Manchester, NJ, suffered head injuries and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for further evaluation. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident and are currently listed in stable condition.
Emergency services personnel from various agencies, including EMTs and firefighters from Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services and Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, responded to the scene. Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson and Robert Wood Johnson LifeFlight, along with the New Jersey Department of Transportation Diversion Team, were also involved.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Ptl. Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety Section to determine the exact cause of the crash.
