76-Year-Old Church Volunteer Charged After Incident with Children at McDonald's

MECHANICSBURG – On Monday, police arrested Roy Andrews, a 76-year-old former church volunteer, on charges involving children following an incident at a Mechanicsburg McDonald’s earlier this month.

According to court documents, Andrews took three children shopping and for lunch at McDonald’s after volunteering at a local church. Concerns arose when the McDonald’s manager alerted authorities on April 7 about alleged inappropriate behavior towards the children. Detailed accounts suggest that Andrews engaged in actions deemed suspicious and concerning in front of customers at the McDonald’s on Bumble Bee Hollow Road in Upper Allen Township.

An arrest warrant led police to Andrews’ residence on April 22. The affidavit details a dramatic confrontation, where Andrews resisted arrest, requiring significant force from law enforcement to detain him. Following the arrest, authorities discovered a suicide note and a firearm near Andrews as he fled. Andrews now faces multiple charges, including felony offenses such as Unlawful Contact With a Minor and Corruption of Minors, among others. After a preliminary arraignment, a judge set bail at $60,000, which Andrews did not post, resulting in his remand to the Cumberland County Prison pending further legal proceedings.

According to police statements, the investigation is ongoing, and there are believed to be additional victims tied to Andrews. Law enforcement encourages anyone with information about the case or potential further victims to reach out to the Upper Allen Township Police Department, which provides several means of contact for individuals to share details that could aid in the investigation.

Andrews’ preliminary hearing before Judge Mark Martin is scheduled for noon on May 2, marking the next step in this case.
