Body of Missing Island Heights Woman Found by Paddleboarder in Berkeley Township, NJ
BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A paddleboarder discovered the body of Karen McKenna, a woman previously reported missing from Island Heights, during her morning paddle on Tuesday. Josette Lata of Pine Beach reported seeing the body around 8:00 AM while completing an 8-mile loop, finding it along the shoreline where it could not be accessed by land.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office had reported McKenna missing since early Monday. Throughout Monday, extensive searches were conducted by land and air, with efforts from the New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard focusing on the Toms River area.
Lata noted that the site where McKenna’s body was found was difficult to reach by foot. However, the New Jersey State Police were able to reach the location using a Zodiac boat. The discovery was made near Good Luck Point Marina in Berkeley Township.
